Steven Spielberg needed an island, but in Oia a warehouse was enough.

A 600-kilo Tyrannosaurus rex lands in Oia for the circus

La Voz de Galicia visited La Fiesta Escénica’s warehouse in Oia, where three dinosaurs had just arrived — a Tyrannosaurus rex seven metres long, five metres high and weighing 600 kilos, a Velociraptor and a Triceratops — for the new show about time travel that the company will premiere in France in October.

Fitted with servomotors and motion sensors, the dinosaurs detect people and react in real time: they raise their heads, follow passers-by with their eyes, swish their tails and roar. They were developed in China to the company’s technical and artistic specifications, and the newspaper presents them as a new leap forward after the animatronics with artists inside and the mechanised animals.

The music, costumes, lighting and sets are also designed in Oia for a production with some twenty artists from Japan, Kenya, Brazil, Mexico and Ukraine. ‘The job of the circus is still the same: to surprise and entertain,’ sums up Abel Martín.
